The festive season is upon us and what better opportunity to think a bit more towards the sustainable side of gifting?
As gardeners and plant enthusiasts, we are already interested in everything and anything green that grows. We find joy in the process, the patience and the reward of seeing one’s success and experiencing the growth. Why not consider gifting your loved ones with the same goodness that comes from gardening and plants?
Have a look further down for a few ideas we put together.

For the indoor fanatic

2020 is truly the year that blessed us with the most incredible selection of indoor plants available to buy all over South Africa. Whether you find yourself in Johannesburg, Durban or even Cape Town, the options are endless.
Why not gift an online voucher from one of the following plant shops?

Plantae Orchids

Plantae Orchids is a specialist nursery dedicated to the growing of orchids and rare & unusual plants. We offer a wide variety of orchid species and orchid hybrids with an emphasis on angraecoids, cattleyas, dendrobiums, oncidiinae phalaenopsis and vandas. Orchid plants can be purchased either at the nursery, at the various shows we attend countrywide or via mail order within South Africa. Our inventory features also exotic plants such as tillandsias and other bromeliads, carnivorous plants, hoyas, ornamental gingers as well as some rare trees and shrubs. We are able to present informative lectures and workshops. An informative monthly newsletter is circulated via e-mail with topical information on orchid growing and notices of shows and open days taking place in that month. You can subscribe to our newsletter by providing us with your details in the space allocated below to the right. The orchid and rare plant nursery is open by appointment as well as on the special open days listed. It would be a shame for you to drive out to the nursery and find we are away on delivery or attending a show. Please phone before you visit if it is not one of the open days listed on the website. Come and enjoy the peace and quiet of the bushveld on one of our open days. You would be able to view a wide range of orchids and other plants, our growing facilities and a variety of exotic cage birds. The garden keeps on expanding and here you would be able to see orchids and other epiphytes growing and flowering in the trees combined with a range of indigenous and exotic plants along the pathways. Wonderful scenery, a wide range of indigenous birds and trees will add to the magic of the visit!

Plantify is an ‘Urban Plantery’. We created this term because we’re not a garden center, nursery or décor shop. We are our own thing: A webshop and indoor plant store that helps people find beautiful unique plants for their urban spaces. We have a large network of growers that grow plants of superior quality, diversity and "fascination" value for us. We also work with craftspeople to make beautiful pots, metal stands and hangers for us, to enable "decorative justice" for your plants. At Plantify, our business is relational. We don’t “just sell plants”. We help our clients think through the plant options that could work for their spaces or projects, and support them both during and after the plant exchange.

Folha Plant Shop

The essence of the Folha Plant Shop is to create a peerless retail space that evokes comfort and calm to those who frequent our shop. Using a fresh approach and on-trend cues, coupled with the abundance of greenery on show, the design is a culmination of man and nature, architecture and organisms. The layout is open plan and intended to serve in an adjustable manner to accommodate flexibility in the display of seasonal plant stock.

For the aspiring entomologist

We became very fond of bees in 2020 with the launch of our #PolliNationSA movement on World Bee Day. Did you know that there are more than a 1200 different solitary bee species in South Africa alone? Learn more about them here.
Why not gift a Candide Solitary Bee Hotel for that aspiring young gardener or gogga fanatic? We promise you they will be thoroughly captivated by the activity that the bees bring.

For the lover of the sun

There is just something magical about a garden - the sprawling lawn, a few planters filled with flowers or just a tiny 2 x 2m balcony - an outdoor garden just brings so much joy!
Many of our nurseries and garden centres offer gift voucher options if you are unsure of which plant to purchase, otherwise, why not buy a tree, perhaps an indigenous shrub or otherwise just a punnet filled with flowering petunias? It is a gift that will bring so many months of delight!
Mint herb

For the foodie

If there is one thing 2020 taught us, it’s the ease with which we can grow our own food. If you are not doing it already - it’s time to start! That first harvest, even if it is just from a herb bush or two will bring so much excitement that you probably won’t stop.
Start with any type of herb - they are super easy. If you feel a bit more adventurous, try your hand at any type of leafy vegetables like spinach, lettuce or kale.
*Top tip: Buy a seedling pack at your local nursery to save some time ;)
Plant pots at Folha

For the aesthete

Call them indoor jungles, your green oasis or just your plant sanctuary - it is no new trend that having an indoor plant or two in your house, is the next best thing.
However, having only the plant will not entirely do. Do you have a pot, plant hanger or perhaps a plant stand on which to style this plant?
There are endless possibilities and options available nowadays for making your indoor kids look incredible. All of the above-mentioned stores stock a lovely selection of pots and accessories for your plant and you can even find beautiful plant pots at your local home stores like Woolworths, Mr. Price and @Home.

Remember to tell all the new plant parents about Candide and the wealth of gardening wisdom that they can find inside the app!
