Japanese Hardy Banana Overview
The Japanese Banana or Hardy Banana, Musa basjoo is an evergreen perennial from the Musaceae family. It can grow to a max size of around 5m tall and 2.5m wide. It has thick, ribbed leaves may reach 3m in length. Readily produces suckers around the base. Flowers are cream-coloured and these appear in the summer, they hang in terminal spikes and may lead onto inedible green fruits measuring up to 6cm in length.
