Siberian Iris Overview

Iris sibirica is a herbaceous perennial that grows from underground rhizomes. This stunningly marked species has narrow grass-like foliage and typically grows to a height of around 1.2m. It produces branched stems bearing 5 violet-blue flowers with white at the base and a purple veining overlay. They appear in early summer. Iris sibirica likes full sun or partial shade and fertile, moist, well-draining soil. Never allow it to become water-logged. When planting, dig in well-rotted organic matter - especially if the soil is on the dry side - and apply a mulch around the plant each spring. A popular and eye-catching plant, Iris sibirica is suitable for most garden situations and styles, including cottage, courtyard and coastal. It is also known as Siberian Iris or Siberian Flag.
