Clematis 'Kaiu' (V) Overview
Clematis 'Kaiu' (V) is an attractive deciduous climber. Flowering in late summer, these pale grey flushed purple-pink towards the top of each nodding flower, mature to pure white. These gorgeous flowers can measure approximately two-three cm across with slightly outward curing tips that create a distinctive bell profile and flower until early autumn. Perfect for training up arches, fences, trellises or pergolas, they can also be grown in large containers and are known to be less subject to clematis wilt. Clematis 'Kaiu' flowers on this seasons growth which puts it in pruning group three (late winter or early spring). This sun-loving climber grows best when its roots are in the shade. When planting new plants, bury the root ball five to eight cm below the soil surface, this will encourage vigorous new shoots. Clematis 'Kaiu' is a hybrid and a member of the Viorna Group of clematis that originates from Southern Europe. The Viorna Group clematis cultivars and hybrids have at least one parent that was developed from C. crispa, C. fusa. C. ianthina, C. pitcheri, C. reticulata, C. texensis, C. virona.
