The most favoured and widely grown avocado cultivar. Hass is favoured for the size and taste of its fruit and its high fruit yield. The fruit is distinguished from other avocados by its bumpy, dark-coloured skin.

Diseases include phytophthora and Dothiorella canker which infects the stems. Pests include squirrels, leaf rollers, fruit flies, mealy bugs and coconut bugs.
How to propagate Avocado 'Hass'
Cuttings
Graft a cutting onto a suitable, vigorously growing rootstock. Grafting should be done during winter months.
Seed
Not recommended, as fruit quality and yield potential may be compromised. Place pips above a glass of water with 3 toothpicks during spring/summer. cut the shoot back when about 6 cm and pot up. Germination will take 1-3 months.
