Peruvian Daffodil Overview

Chlidanthus fragrans is a summer-growing exotic bulbous species that is a close relative to the Daffodil. Like the daffodil, it also has beautiful sweet, fragrant tubular yellow flowers. This species thrives in warmer climates and therefore requires to be lifted and stored if grown in areas that are prone to frost. It makes for a beautiful feature when planted directly into the garden or in a pretty pot.

How to harvest Peruvian Daffodil

Harvest the flower stalks in late spring to early summer for a great fragrant bouquet.

How to propagate Peruvian Daffodil

Sow seeds immediately when they are ripe. Sow 8-10 cm apart and at a depth of 2-4 mm. The plant will take four to five years to reach maturity.

Divide the offsets during the dormant period (winter). Plant offsets at the same depth as the height of the bulb and space them 8 cm apart. The offsets tend to take 3 years to reach maturity.

Bulbs should be kept fairly dry after leaves die back in late summer. Propagate from seed or offset bulbs in spring.
