Gossip Spurflower Overview

Plectranthus verticillatus is part of the mint family, Laminaceae, and has fragrant foliage when crushed. The stems are square in shape and the leaves have irregular edges. This is a soft, semi-succulent, aromatic, perennial that grows to between 10-30.5cm in height, with a spread of about 60cm. The heart-shaped leaves are succulent and it produces tubular flowers that appear in summer. It can be an annual or evergreen perennial, depending on where it is grown. Often kept indoors as a houseplant, where it will remain green year-round. In mild climates free from frost it may be grown outdoors as a perennial, or in colder climates it can be grown as an annual. ZA Distribution: Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Western Cape.
