ZZ Plant Overview
Zamioculcas zamiifolia is the only species in the genus Zamioculcas. Also known by the name ZZ Plant, it has a short, thick rhizome with succulent, oppositely arranged green leaves. These may be shed during periods of prolonged drought. It is widely grown as a houseplant due to its attractive, shiny, dark green leaves, its tolerance of low light levels, and for its air-purifying qualities. Small, non-showy flowers, coloured yellow-brown, appear from mid-summer to early autumn, later developing into white berry-like fruits. Foliage is toxic if ingested and can irritate eyes and skin on contact.
