Bulbinella Overview

Genus consisting of around 24 bulbous species with compact, unbranching growth habits. They produce erect inflorescences, up to 1m tall, these are unbranched and packed densely with many little flowers. Flowers are most often yellow, but some species produce orange, white or pink flowers. Many species are endemic to South Africa and restricted in their distribution to winter rainfall areas, a few species are found in New Zealand and these are concentrated in the central Otago region, which has a similar climate to the Cape Floristic province of South Africa.
