Dwarf Umbrella Tree Overview

Schefflera arboricola is an evergreen shrub species in the Araliaceae family. It produces palmately compound, glossy, green foliage, arranged into 7-9 oblong leaflets measuring up to 20cm in length. These radiate outwards from stems and some cultivars have light yellow markings. It flowers rarely, but if it does, this tends to be on mature trees. Non-showy yellow-green flowers are arranged densely on branched panicle arrangements, leading to colourful fruits. It has a bushy habit and is frost-tender so keep above freezing temperatures and place in a position in full or partial shade. Grow in well-draining soil for optimal growth. This plant is a popular house and garden plant. It can however, often drop leaves, particularly if it is exposed to cold draughts. Water when the soil has thoroughly dried out, for best results. This cultivar has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
