Escallonia

Escallonia Overview

Escallonia is a genus that contains around 47 evergreen, semi-evergreen or deciduous shrubs and trees originating from the Americas. Grown for their shiny foliage and attractive, scented, 5-petalled blooms. These are typically red, white or pink and produced in clusters on branched or unbranched stems. This genus has been developed and multiple hybrids and cultivars produced. They make good hedging plants, typically growing around 30cm yearly, to heights of 1.5-3m.

You can propagate by softwood or semi-ripe cuttings in the summer.

Other uses of Escallonia

Grown for their profuse, 5 petalled flowers and glossy foliage, which is very attractive to bees. Suitable for coastal conditions.
