Agapanthus 'Golden Drop' Overview
Agapanthus 'Golden Drop' is a compact evergreen, clump forming perennial that produces striking lilac-blue star-shaped flowers loosely clustered together to form rounded heads standing 40cm tall. Lily of the Nile 'Golden Drop' has really attractive light green, edged with yellow, strap-shaped leaves that contrast and frame the erect flower stems. African Lily 'Golden Drop' was introduced at the RHS Chelsea Show in 2012 and gives a lovely summer display, looking especially stunning as part of a Mediterranean or mixed planting scheme. In areas where the temperature drops below minus 10C, it will happily grow in large containers that can be moved undercover during the winter months. Like the fairy tale character Goldilocks, Agapanthus like their growing space to be just so. Contra to popular wisdom, Agapanthus do not like to be overcrowded in their pots; however they also take a while to establish if planted up into too large spaces. As a rule of thumb, pot on every two years using a gritty multipurpose mix. This cultivar is protected under intellectual property laws by Plant Breeders' Rights. These provide the breeder of new plants exclusive control over the plant material for a set amount of time.
