A genus of deciduous shrubs and trees in the Theaceae family closely related to Camellia. They originate from Southeast Asia and a couple from Southeast USA. They are cultivated for their attractive smooth bark in shades of orange to yellow-brown that peels in fine flakes and for their showy white flowers and Autumn colour. They prefer an acid soil in a sheltered position.
