About the garden

Wildekrans Country House is a historic 1811 homestead situated in the village of Houw Hoek in the Western Cape. Overlooking a rambling garden that cascades to the river, and silhouetted by a rugged mountain backdrop, the house is furnished with antiques and contemporary South African art.

Accommodation with breakfast and dinner is available as is a self-catering option. For those travelling on business, all rooms have MNet and WiFi. The homestead has three double rooms including a suite. A separate cottage alongside the homestead is perfect for families or travellers wanting kitchen facilities. Quirky, burnished by the years, Wildekrans Country House offers a relaxing interlude away from the hurly-burly of city life.

Just one hour from Cape Town it is an ideal weekend getaway, or extension to a Mother City visit.

We had a lovely stay at Wildekrans Country House, starting with a tasty welcome snack and tour of the beautiful property. The owner and her team were very helpful and friendly, even going out of their way to enquire on our behalf about some of the riding trails in the area. The rooms were spacious, well arranged and very clean. The location of the property was perfect for our needs, as we had planned to mountain bike in the area. Thank you to Alison and her team for a lovely stay and we hope to return one day in the future.

Wildekrans Country House was our base for 4 nights whilst walking the Green Mountain Trail. A beautiful and comfortable house which immediately made one feel at home. Alison Green is a wonderful hostess and her staff are friendly and helpful. Meals were delicious and in beautiful settings, in garden or dining rooms. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful time we had! Leaving and returning each day of our 4 day hike to the comfort of Wildekrans Country House, where the superb and friendly team see to your every need, and serve up fantastic meals at every sitting, made our hiking experience an exceptional one. The warm Wildekrans hospitality we received from Alison and her team made us feel so at home that I didn’t want to leave! We will certainly be back for more Wildekrans hospitality, and to hike again in these majestic mountains.
