About the garden

Wildekrans Country House is a historic 1811 homestead situated in the village of Houw Hoek in the Western Cape. Overlooking a rambling garden that cascades to the river, and silhouetted by a rugged mountain backdrop, the house is furnished with antiques and contemporary South African art.

Accommodation with breakfast and dinner is available as is a self-catering option. For those travelling on business, all rooms have MNet and WiFi. The homestead has three double rooms including a suite. A separate cottage alongside the homestead is perfect for families or travellers wanting kitchen facilities. Quirky, burnished by the years, Wildekrans Country House offers a relaxing interlude away from the hurly-burly of city life.

Just one hour from Cape Town it is an ideal weekend getaway, or extension to a Mother City visit.

Wildekrans Country House is a home from home stay. One feels át home' from the moment the very accomplished and warm Allison welcomes you at the gate. Our rooms were comfy and the meals were tasty, healthy and so classy. The garden is an invitation to go into the mountains. Which we did! The Green Mountain Trail was all it promised to be: moderately challenging, utterly beautiful and professionally led by Andreas and Patrick. Five golden stars to this unique guesthouse/boutique hotel and the wonderful trail.

Step into an old world wonder, a beautiful old house with a stunning garden, Alison is an exceptional host, which she and her team master. From wonderful breakfasts, to teas, lunches and dinners, also catering for allergy specific individuals. She makes you feel welcome and relaxed and has interesting historical stories of the country house and family. - Thank you for a magical experience !

Wonderful sense of peace and calm, and appreciation of art in many forms. A delightful spot, great hospitality and top rank hosts. Can't wait to return.

Great hospitality set in the most magnificent tranquil space. A world away from it all. I have stayed and visited a few times - attending and hosting art retreats. Food always fabulous, staff generous, welcoming and attentive, a garden to get lost in, hands on personal attention from the owner.... all of this makes a visit or stay memorable.
