About the garden

The Arderne Gardens is a South African Provincial Heritage Site as designated by the National Monument placard near the entrance. Our 5 hectares containing more than 400 trees are directly managed by the City of Cape Town.

The garden, thanks to the extraordinary interest and commitment of its founders, also has one of the most diverse and valuable collections of exotic trees in all of South Africa. It now officially includes one of the largest trees in South Africa, the vast Moreton Bay Fig (or Wedding Tree, as it is commonly called) and quite possibly the largest Aleppo Pine in the world. These trees, along with four others, were proudly designated Champion Trees in 2008.

A beautiful garden set in the suburb of Kenilworth. This garden has beautiful old trees. The garden is very well maintained. There are benches to sit on or you can relax on the lush lawns. There is a security guard at the entrance giving you peace of mind. There are public toilet facilities. The parking is in the street in Main road or one of the side streets.

Beautiful and peaceful garden that is not well known to tourists. Excellent location to have a picnic or to relax after a long day. Very well maintained. Rabbits and squirrels add to the beauty of the place. Garden is constantly being improved. Free entrance but parking is limited.

The park is being restored to its former glory. If you enjoy and respect nature and you are looking for a humbling experience then go and visit the park to see some of the biggest trees in SA and in the world for some species. During the day there is security in the park and one does feels save as you walk through.

Incredibly peaceful and lovely to walk through with views of Table Mountain. They have a lovely little pond with a bridge for easy photo opportunities. Picnics are a must and the diverse plant life almost rivals it's big brother, The Company Gardens in town! Live in nature and embrace the fresh air with stunning individuals or chill by yourself. Whatever the case may be, Arderne Gardens caters for everyone and everything.

Wonderful outdoor gem in the middle of Claremont. Plenty of space and shade for lovely picnics. Entry was free and a bathroom close by. What a beautiful place to relax.
