About the garden

Fans of Roses won’t want to miss Stow Hall’s magnificent display with over 200 species flourishing throughout the varied and intriguing linked gardens. But these perennials aren’t the only appeal of the 20-acre space in Norfolk.

Meander through the Courtyard Gardens with walls that are delicately enveloped in beautiful old Roses and Wisteria, discover the sunken Dutch Garden or admire the striking topiary. This garden is not only a treat for the eyes - inhale the invigorating aroma of plants and herbs in the Cottage Garden and explore the Walled Kitchen Garden, home to an arched tunnel covered in Apple and Pear trees, competition-size vegetables and an orchard containing over 100 delicious Apple varieties. Remember to seek out the Fern Leaf Beech – one of the quirkiest trees in the gardens.

Lovingly nurtured by generations of the Hare family, these gardens have a rich history accompanied by a sense of serenity. The benches make ideal spots for pausing in the sunlight with refreshments from the self-service tea room.

Absolute gem of a place. Beautiful gardens, even at this time of year. Wide variety of plants, shrubs, vegetables and fruit. Very reasonable admission fee (£5). A reasonably priced self service cafe is available and a few items such as Stow Hall notebooks etc are available as gifts. I highly recommend a visit and the annual pass which is excellent value. Well done to Stow Hall for keeping this wonderful garden open.

Watch an outdoor showing of beauty and the beast. Excellent and funny for the whole family.

I was fortunate enough to spend my convalescence here after surgery 1974/75. It's a shame there don't seem to be any photos of the hall from around that time. It was a wonderful experience. The building was atmospheric, the nurses wonderful, the food delicious and the gardens?! Just as beautiful then, as we were accompanied on gentle walks as part of the therapy. Very happy memories of this place and heartbroken to hear it was demolished.
