About the garden

Feast your eyes on this visual treat. Situated on a 10-acre site in the Steenberg area of Cape Town, 3D installations by African artists are dotted across freshwater wetland and surrounded by beautiful indigenous flora. The natural scenery of Western Cape provides a stunning backdrop.

Spot abstract artworks poking out from behind vegetation, discover brightly coloured pieces around different corners and be inspired by immense creations against the greenery. The Sculpture Garden subtly connects to the Norval Foundation building – a modern work of art in itself; inside you can see a range of permanent and changing exhibitions and collections as well as glorious views of the serene wetland, vineyards and mountains beyond.

Visitors can explore the museum as well as take a self-guided audio tour of the Sculpture Garden. A trip wouldn’t be complete without a delicious locally sourced meal in the acclaimed Skotnes Restaurant while the children enjoy the playground.

This is my best museum in Cape Town, they have spared nothing in making this art gallery beautiful, informative and so interesting. It's all about Africa, paintings, interactive, photography to sculptures! It's a great morning out! They have a superb sculpture garden that surprises you at every corner! We spent an hour walking around this wonderful gallery, the art is beautiful and displayed in a free flowing manner, as you walk in the lights flick on, its an excellent experience and I highly recommend you visit this on your next trip to Cape Town.

As I cruise into the downstairs parking the lights turn on for me and momentarily I feel like royalty. Stepping out into the Norval Foundation is a treat. The architecture is modern and functional- being an art museum amongst other things. I love the clean lines of this building. The galleries range in size and are always filled with exciting artists. The focus being Africa. Then there’s the Skotnes Restaurant that serves up a delicious menu and while you enjoy the flavours your gaze is mostly over the wetland and indigenous gardens. Here you can wander around and view plants and installations. Become a member and you’ll be invited to exhibition openings, musical evenings and other interesting events. It’s the place where I go alone to escape the humdrum or spend time with my family and friends.

An unforgettable experience! Loved the restaurant food and setting. The gallery and sculpture garden are both foods for the soul... A breathtaking walk through the (originally) wetland garden. Highly recommended.

I love this place. It's beautiful. The walk through the sculpture garden is amazing. And the restaurant is brilliant and caters to everyone's needs (even the kids) without losing its sense of "occasion"

I loved the indigenous garden and it's sculptures. The exhibitions were interesting, stimulating and thought provoking. The coffee in the restaurant was hot and the carrot cake delicious. World Class!
