About the garden

Want to explore a garden with the trickling of a mountain stream in your ear, the breeze tussling your hair and the sea lapping in the distance? Of course, you do. Set on the edge of the northern slopes of the Iveragh Peninsula, Kells Bay House and Gardens deliver all this and more throughout its six spectacular gardens.

With its vigorous sub-tropical planting, terrific mountain views and resident dinosaurs, it’s easy to see why Kells Bay House and Gardens is one of Ireland’s most coveted settings – particularly among families with young children. A rope bridge (Ireland’s longest) carries visitors into another world, where prehistoric giants carved out of wood sit among giant ferns. Elsewhere you’ll find an enchanting bamboo glade, babbling brook and a palm and succulent-studded garden.

After working up an appetite wandering, swimming, horse riding or fishing, intrepid explorers usually don’t need any persuasion when it comes to the onsite Thai restaurant.

What a perfect place to relax and recuperate! We spent two nights over New Year, enjoying the absolute peace and quiet, with just the sound of the wind in the bay, crashing waves and bird song. The room was perfect; the bath was deep, plenty long enough for a tall person like myself, and there was enough hot water to fill it to the top! The shower .. oh wow! The room on it's own would have been enough but then add to the mix the most amazing Thai food and perfect hosts. Finally, if this wasn't enough, the gardens were absolute heaven! An oasis of lush tranquility. Manna for the soul. We will definitely return.

Fantastic experience. The room was beautiful. Nice TV with Netflix for unwinding in the evening. The house is surrounded by beautiful scenic gardens and stunning Kerry views. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was exquisite. The bar had a nice selection of local beers and some tasty whiskeys. All in all a very positive experience. We intend to return sometime in the not too distant future. A side note, as someone who has an irrational fear of heights, the rope bridge was terror inducing but fun all the same.
