About the garden

The garden has been restored to the half-wild state that Wordsworth created from local plants and materials. It was a place of peace and inspiration for Wordsworth, who would often compose poetry outdoors.

Get concession for travelling on the bus! Usually places like this I kind of tolerate the shoddy parts for an interesting day out. But genuinely good. V well produced video to set the scene, love that you can just walk around in the house picking things up and exploring. Didn't spend a great deal of time in the museum but was well put together

I came here primarily to see Dove cottage. I left totally moved by the whole experience. I cannot recommend this place more. From the general atmosphere to the friendly, helpful and enthusiastic staff, please take the time to support this amazing venue.

A must visit when visiting the Lakes. The cottage stands today just as it did back then and its where Wordsworth wrote some of his most famous poems. The views are just as enchanting. Wonderful, friendly staff.

I visited with family last week and we all agreed this was a highlight of our trip to Grasmere. The exhibitions in the new visitor centre were excellent, and the staff and guides were all really helpful. Definitely recommend a visit on a rainy day!

This was a pilgrimage for me, because Wordsworth's poetry is unique. They have a new museum in which I was able to see a couple of rare manuscripts, and Dove Cottage itself was charming. The staff were friendly, welcoming, helpful and enthusiastic. Thoroughly recommend this.
