About the garden

With its fragrant, clematis-lined walkways, wisteria-covered pergolas and elegant chapel garden, it’s easy to see why Abbeywood Gardens in Cheshire is a popular wedding venue. Luckily, you don’t have to be tying the knot to enjoy exploring this 45-acre estate nestled deep in the Delamere countryside.

Whether you’re into the understated beauty of cottage planting (think a peaceful pond flanked by penstemon, phlox and hellebores) or the bold silhouettes of tropical foliage (where large leafy trachycarpus palms jostle for space with dahlias and tetrapanax papyrifer), you’ll find plenty to please the eye at this beautiful patchwork of themed gardens.

If you can tear yourself away from the blossoming borders, Abbeywood Gardens also encompasses ten acres of woodland glades, including mature oaks, pines and conifers. Those interested in growing their own will find plenty of inspiration in the kitchen garden. Feeling peckish after eyeing up all that produce? Swing by The Garden Café and Restaurant for a relaxed bite to eat.

Lovely gardens and surrounding estate. Nice play area for children and animals to see. Cafe is very good, good service and food excellent. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Dogs are made welcome in the gardens and in the café, great news as It can be difficult to find places that welcome dogs.

Such a beautiful and varied garden. Straight out of the picturesque cafe/restaurant is a stunning tropical garden and further exploration leads to immaculately kept herbaceous borders, ponds and wisteria arches to name a few. Beyond this lies a woodland walk, wildflower meadows, new arboretum and kitchen garden. We also spent a lovely time saying hi to a beautiful pair of horses, flock of sheep and varied chickens and ducks. All in, a great place to while away a couple of relaxing hours in glorious surroundings; would definitely recommend!

Lovely visit for lunch and the gardens. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and efficient. The gardens were tranquil and a great place to lose yourself in for a couple of hours and on a glorious day it was lovely to be outside. We will definitely be back to see the gardens develop through the year.
