Genus of hardy, annual, biennial and perennial species, some of which are evergreen. They are characterised by having long tap roots, numerous strap-shaped, linear petals and flat rosettes of leaves. Naturally found throughout the Northern Hemisphere and Africa. They are typically grown for their dandelion-like flowers, but many species are considered weeds.
