This is a fast-growing large perennial with glossy, rich green foliage and large fragrant clusters of white to pale pink, porcelain-like, waxy bracts which open to reveal small, bright orange flowers with dark red bee-lines.

Other uses of Alpinia zerumbet

Ornamental, fragrance, foliage, cut flowers. The leaves are used as a tea in Japan and to wrap mochi rice cakes, as well as to flavour noodles. In modern medicine, the rhizome and leaves are proven effective against HIV-1 integrase and neuraminidase enzymes which allow the virus DNA to enter and move between the infected cells.
