Spindle Trees Overview
The genus Euonymus is home to nearly 200 deciduous, semi-evergreen or evergreen shrubs, trees and climbers. They are typically cultivated for their attractive foliage and autumn colour - of their leaves and fruits. Also known as spindle trees, Euonymus originate from woodland environments in Asia and make lovely specimen plants. They may also be used effectively as hedging or ground cover. Their flowers are small, discrete and coloured green, yellow, pink or maroon, depending on species. Many cultivars and hybrids have been selected for different qualities. Those with variegated foliage are particularly popular and very useful for brightening up a shady corner - even in winter.
