Windmill Palm Overview

Trachycarpus fortunei is an evergreen, palm species from the Arecaceae family. Commonly known by the names Windmill Palm and Chinese Windmill Palm, amongst others. It is termed dioecious as it produces male and female flowers on individual plants. This species is described as a small tree, it produces deeply divided, fan-shaped foliage measuring up to 1m long. Small yellow flowers may be borne in great abundance during the summer. This species has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. It has a bushy habit and can cope with temperatures as low as -15 degrees Celsius, plant in a sheltered position, in full to partial sun, in well-draining soil for optimal growth.
