About the garden

Nestled in the lush Cotswold Hills is Miserden, recent winner of Historic Houses Garden of the Year and a garden which has managed to retain much of its 17th-century charm even as the world has evolved around it.

Mature yew hedges provide a velvety green backdrop to borders which zing with colour from spring to autumn thanks to an inspired mix of shrubs and herbaceous plants. If it’s original features you’re after, Miserden has them in spades. From the magnificent Mulberry tree that dates back to 1620 to the rustic stone summerhouse and light-filled cafe housed in a striking converted glasshouse. The rose-draped pergola adds a heady splash of romance to proceedings and there is the ever-present visage of the house itself, draped with Wisteria, which provides a beautiful backdrop to the garden.

This garden also scores points with eco-friendly gardeners for its commitment to greening the estate, as evident in the hedgerows and untamed field margins where birds and dormice happily flit about. Touches of the contemporary extend to the Garden Cafe, which serves a delicious collection of cakes and some excellent teas and coffees.

Great Little place. Gardens and Estate worth a visit. Garden need to be booked online. Village Has a pub and nursery shop. You can walk down to the Valley to wonder around two ponds.

Nice small gardens of a country house. Well maintained although not in full bloom yet. Lots of daffodils and bluebells. Great place for a picnic. A slope for small children to roll down on a nice day too. Toilets at the back of the house and a drinks and rolls van in the small car park. Gravel paths, steps and slopes.

Lovely Cotswold village with easy dog friendly walks. Didn't get into the garden, as dogs weren't allowed. Well stocked nursery, and a nice village pub.

Beautiful, varied, widespread and tranquil. And the floral staircase - magnificent. What an achievement from the garden
