About the garden

On a sheltered plot near Leominster in Herefordshire, you’ll find Stockton Bury Gardens, a quintessential English country garden, which regularly graces the ‘must visit UK garden’ lists compiled by papers. And for good reason. A beautiful old building cloaked in Wisteria greets visitors, who can stroll under archways made of flowers and down hedge-lined pathways leading to beautifully planted borders.

The four-acre garden is also home to a medieval pigeon house, tranquil water gardens and an original Victorian Garden Kitchen, which supplies the cafe with fresh, zero air-mile fruit and veggies. Children are sure to be mesmerised by the Monkey Puzzle Tree, while the dappled shade of the orchard provides welcome relief on sunnier days.

Created by keen plantsmen Raymond Treasure and Gordon Fenn, Stockton Bury has been in the Treasure family for five generations and much of the garden was pasture until the pair transformed it into this well-acclaimed garden that is now about 35 years old.

If you’re curious about the history of the garden, feel free to stop by the museum before you leave. Though we’d make sure to steal our last glimpses of the garden from the Pavilion, it's also a tranquil spot to take in picturesque views of the rolling countryside.

This is a beautiful garden with interesting planting and we had a lovely couple of hours exploring the well designed areas of the garden. The only disappointment was that there was no indication as to what any of the plants were, we are not all experts and so perhaps this could be considered. We had an excellent lunch at the cafe outside in a lovely setting. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

Thought this was going to be smaller than expected. Spent 2hours here wondering at the superb plant and tree specimens. Fantastic areas of interest and do try and find the secret garden! Most people don't! Nice food/cakes at the coffee shop.😋

This place was an amazing find, absolutely loved it, gardens have so many different areas to see. You need two to three hours minimum to see it and enjoy a nice meal from the cafe. Good parking, clean restrooms and plants to buy.

Thought it has been over advertised as not that special gardens to observe considering the £8.50 admission for adults!!! Choice of food in the cafe was lacking..ice cream choices were very limited no normal flavours. But on a positive note the staff were extremely helpful and friendly

Stockton Bury Gardens are quite stunning. Really lovely planting, and one of those gardens that has lots of little surprises dotted around, great for kids to explore. The food there is always delicious too, if you were thinking of popping in for a bite. Lovely friendly staff as well.
