About the garden

Heale House and its surrounding gardens are situated beside the river Avon in Middle Woodford, a small village just south of the famous ancient monument at Stonehenge. This is a real plant enthusiast’s garden, with vibrant borders and a great medley of plants from across the world, with a particular focus on Japanese varieties, complemented by an authentic tea house which sits atop two streams.

Heale Gardens are crisscrossed by water, with moisture-loving plants found alongside the many tributaries which flow across the grounds. Betweens these waterways, paths snake through the long grasses, their verges peppered with roses, wildflowers, bulbs and orchids. The perennial borders and walled kitchen garden are bursting with delightful and unusual plants, while topiary is a real feature, too, helping guide you through the garden. Visitors are allowed to picnic in the car park or you can get a bite to eat in the lovely on site tea rooms.

The most wonderful and peaceful gardens.......Only 8 acres, but absolutely beautiful. Around every corner is another surprise...... I cannot recommend it enough. If you love plants you will enjoy spending time here. Some parts of the garden have a wild untamed feel....but this all added to the attraction for me! The cafe has an excellent choice of delicious homemade cakes! The coffee was good too. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Not well advertised so not too many visitors. Excellent plant centre...so of course I bought some! They have peacocks too!

First-time visit and already in our top three gardens. No gift shop full of expensive tat or overpriced cafeteria. Just an informal coffee shop serving a good lunch and a great fusion garden of managed and meadow planting. Plant sales are a bonus. It's a credit to the small gardening team. Look forward to visiting again in a different season.
