Knotted Cranesbill Overview
Geranium nodosum is also commonly known by the name Knotted Cranesbill. It is a herbaceous perennial with a sprawling habit, producing glossy, bright green leaves that are 3 or 5-lobed. The flowers have 5 light pink petals, with attractive darker veining, measuring around 2.5cm across. The flowers appear from late spring to early autumn. Best grown in moist, well-draining, moderately fertile soil, Knotted Cranesbill can cope with shade but performs best in a sunny site. Originating from Southern Europe, it is widely grown in other places and is suitable for many garden situations from garden borders to ground cover on coastal slopes. Geranium nodosum is part of the Royal Horticultural Society “Plants for Pollinators” initiative that showcases plants which support pollinator populations by providing ample amounts of nectar and/or pollen. A great choice for encouraging pollinating insect wildlife into your garden!
