Cranesbill 'Elke' Overview
Geranium 'Elke' is a low-growing, bushy, spreading plant that has deeply divided dark green leaves and masses of small, upward-facing flowers of soft pink-mauve, each petal with a distinctive white edge and dark pink veins. Flowering from early summer to early autumn, it can be used for ground cover or planted in borders, rockeries and patio containers. Geranium 'Elke' is a cultivar related to G. sanguineum and is becoming a firm favourite with gardeners, due to its spiky foliage which provides a green mat against which the bright flowers are highlighted. It can be planted in shade but prefers a position of full or partial sun, and it likes moist, well-draining soil. Fully hardy in most places, it is a versatile, low-maintenance plant suited to most garden styles. It is also favoured by bees and other pollinators. What's not to like?!
