Viper's Bugloss Overview

Echium vulgare is a bristly, upright biennial plant from the Boraginaceae family. It produces narrow, hairy leaves with toothed edges and dense spikes of pretty violet-blue flowers. They are arranged in coiled clusters and the flowers open from pink-purple buds. Commonly known by the names Viper's Bugloss and Blueweed, amongst others, this plant is also sometimes misnamed as Echium vulgaris. This species is part of the Royal Horticultural Society “Plants for Pollinators” initiative to showcase plants which support pollinator populations by providing ample amounts of nectar and/ or pollen. A great choice for encouraging pollinating insect wildlife into your garden!
