Echinacea paradoxa is a clump-forming deciduous perennial with a bushy habit and stems bearing long, narrow leaves. It produces daisy-like flowers in summer, and early autumn with golden-yellow rays droop from a brown conical-shaped centre. Also known as Yellow Cone Flower and Bush's Purple Coneflower, this plant prefers south or west-facing spots in full sun with soil that has good drainage. In colder areas, you may wish to cover the crown with a dry mulch to help prevent winter wet rotting the roots. These plants don't like their roots disturbed, so avoid digging them up unless they have outgrown the available space. Flowering later in the season, this plant is an excellent choice for encouraging pollinating insect wildlife into your garden. Cutting back spent flowering stems can help lengthen the display.
