Purple Hopseed Bush Overview

Dodonaea viscosa 'Purpurea' is a bushy evergreen small tree or shrub. This ornamental shrub produces oblong and crinkled purple foliage that shows off the red-green flowers that appear in summer. Also known as the Purple Hopseed Bush, this plant can be found throughout tropical and temperate regions. In northern latitudes, they will need sheltered spots - such as south or west-facing walls in full sun or coastal gardens. For exposed locations, they can also be grown in containers and moved under cover during the colder months. If growing in containers, use a loam-based compost and water regularly. The plant will also benefit from a liquid feed [applied as per the manufactures instructions] and if they outgrow the space, can be pruned back in late summer, and again in spring if needed.
