Pink Spotted Begonia Overview
Begonia rajah is a small and interesting rhizomatous perennial from the Begoniaceae family that produces fantastically patterned foliage. It may be known by the common names Pink Spotted Begonia or Resam Batu. The leaves are oval in shape, textured and vibrantly coloured, with prominent veins. Leaves measure up to 10cm across in mature plants, they emerge red and have distinctive green veins. This tender plant originates from Malaya and is grown mainly as an unusual houseplant, it doesn't usually exceed 30cm in height. The flowers are less showy than the leaves, which are the main reason for growing. Waxy pale pink flowers may be produced in the summer. Begonia rajah enjoys high humidity compared to most Begonia species, making it ideal for placement in a closed terrarium. It may struggle in dry household air and doesn't like to get too warm, grow in partial shade. If receiving too much light, the leaves will tend to fade, becoming greener.
