Dahlia 'Leonardo' Overview
Dahlia 'Gallery Leonardo' is a tuberous perennial cultivar in the daisy family, Asteraceae (Asteraceae). It produces attractive divided foliage and is mainly grown for the large, pink, ornamental flowers, these appear from summer-autumn and they measure around 12cm across. This cultivar is part of the Decorative Dahlia Group, these plants are characterised by their attractive double blooms, the flower centres are hidden by many ray florets, these are the colourful, outer strap-shaped petals of flowers in the Asteraceae family. In this group, the florets are flat to slightly inward-curving. This cultivar is protected under intellectual property laws by Plant Breeders' Rights. These provide the breeder of new plants exclusive control over the plant material for a set amount of time. It has also earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
