Tithonia Overview

Tithonia is a genus containing around 12 annual, perennial, shrub or small trees from Central America. These plants produce large, vivid yellow, orange or scarlet daisy-like flowerheads in late summer and mid autumn. The leaves are hairy on the undersides and sharply lobed. They are half-hardy. Grow in sun with fertile, well-drained soil. You should provide support and dead-heading regularly. Propagation is by seeds sown under glass in late winter or early spring. Tall herbaceous garden varieties such as Tithonia diversifolia and Tithonia rotundifolia, (commonly called Mexican Sunflower) display vivid daisy-like flowers on single stems and prefer a sunny site on well-drained soil.
