Bugbane Overview

Actaea simplex is a tall perennial that produces dramatic upright white flowering stems from a central rosette of purple-flushed fern-like leaves. This stunning plant will flower from mid-summer through until autumn bringing colour to partial shaded areas. Commonly known as Bugbane or Snakeroot, this long-lived plant does well in most garden settings with little maintenance. Provide it with a slightly damp setting it will reward you with late season colour for years. This plant is occasionally sold under the botanical name of Cimicifuga simplex, before it was re-classified by Dr James Compton.
