Cleretum Overview
Small genus with around 3 annual, succulent species in the family Aizoaceae, originating from South Africa. The Aizoaceae family is commonly known by the name ice plants and also known as vygies in South Africa and New Zealand. They grow in short clumps, forming an effective groundcover. These are grown worldwide, producing showy, daisy-like blooms with many linear ray florets. There are a wide range of colours available including yellow, white and pink. Foliage glistens in bright light due to the presence of raised, bladder-like modified cells on the leaf surface, these are a modification for enhanced water storage in dry climates.
