Jacaranda Overview
Jacaranda mimosifolia is commonly known by the names Jacaranda, Blue Jacaranda, Fern Tree or Black Poui, amongst others. It is deciduous tree species from the Bignoniaceae family. This tender tree is fast-growing, forming a rounded shape up to 15m in height. Grown for the flowers and the foliage, leaves are divided and resemble those of ferns. Flowers are showy and trumpet-shaped, coloured purple-blue and measuring up to 5cm across. They appear from spring to early summer and lead onto woody seedpods, containing flattened winged seeds. This plant has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
