Chinese Rice-Paper Plant 'Rex' Overview
Tetrapanax papyrifer 'Rex' is a showy cultivar from the Araliaceae family. It is a large shrub or small tree, growing quickly to around 2m in height. It produces downy branches and large, showy, deeply lobed leaves which can reach a metre wide. In autumn tall sprays of creamy flowers appear, followed by black fruits. Rarely gets above 3m in the UK climate. Only evergreen if kept frost free, otherwise the plant will be deciduous. In cold winters (-10 degrees Celsius) it will die back completely, regrowing from ground level in spring.
