    Orchid Overview

This genus of orchids comprises fragrant and vividly-coloured, wax-like flowers. The genus is derived from the Greek for "yoked petal", referring to the yoke-like growth at the base of the flower lip. Many of the 15 recognised species of Zygopetalum are terrestrial, having multiple blooms that often in flower for 8 weeks.
