Ball Cactus Overview

Parodia magnifica is a perennial cactus from the Cactaceae family. It forms clusters of rounded, ribbed and spiny stems up to 15cm in height. Flowers are funnel-shaped, measuring around 5cm in diameter, opening from often woolly-bristly buds. Native to Brazil, Parodia magnifica is commonly known by the names Ball Cactus and Balloon Cactus. It is sometimes still known by older names such as Notocactus magnificus or Eriocactus magnificus. In cultivation, it is usually grown under glass or inside as a houseplant. This plant has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
