Yew Overview
The genus Taxus is also known as Yew, it contains around 9 species of hardy, slow-growing, evergreen, coniferous trees or shrubs. Originating from forests across temperate climates, this genus is found from the Philippines to Central America. They are typically grown for their attractive, often peeling red-brown bark, linear, dark green foliage and attractive, but toxic, fleshy red berries. This genus is well planted as hedging or groundcover, with some species popular in topiary and most tolerating high levels of urban pollution, dry soil and exposed positioning.
How to propagate Yew
Seed
Propagate by seed sown in autumn or spring (but forms selected for leaf colour do not come true).
Cuttings
Evergreen current growth cuttings in autumn to spring. Deciduous softwood cuttings in summer.
