Syringa vulgaris 'Andenken an Ludwig Spath' is a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit winner with striking, scented, 4-petalled wine-red blooms. Flowers are single in structure and arranged on slim, roughly 30cm long, branching stems known as panicles. These are branched stems whereby each individual flower has its own stalk. Flowers nearer the base are older, new flowers are produced from the growing tip at the top. This is a medium size, deciduous shrub cultivar that produces dark green, heart-shaped leaves.
