Salvia 'Hot Lips' Overview

Salvia microphylla 'Hot Lips' is a perennial cultivar that produces 2-lipped, bright, red flowers in summer and bright red and white flowers in autumn. These give the appearance of red lips - hence the name. A bushy evergreen, it has short, dense and aromatic foliage that looks excellent in borders and containers. In fact, there are few garden styles where Salvia microphylla 'Hot Lips' won't be a welcome addition - including Mediterranean and gravel gardens. It has a long flowering season that continues until the first frost and it is drought tolerant. It likes moist but well-drained soil and a sheltered position. Preferring full sun, it will tolerate partial shade. Salvia microphylla 'Hot Lips' has earned a coveted 'RHS Award of Garden Merit' and is also on the RHS 'Plants for Pollinators' list highlighting plants that produce large amounts of nectar and/or pollen. A great choice for encouraging beneficial insect wildlife into your garden!
