About the garden

The Inner Temple Garden is one of many pocket gardens bringing joy and much-needed breathing space to the desk-bound Londoners who seek out its serene rose-covered borders on their lunch break.

Nestled between the calm of the embankment and the constant whir of the Strand, the Inner Temple Garden has, miraculously, remained an oasis of calm since the 12th century. And consequently, has plenty of stories to tell. From flower shows amid the infamous smog of Victorian London, to a cameo in Shakespeare who immortalised the garden’s roses.

In Spring the tulips and wallflowers are smothered by alliums and poppies before the fragrant canvas is repainted with dahlias, geraniums and ornamental grasses. During the colder months, the woodland garden is freckled with snowdrops and hellebores, and later in the year, the peony garden frames pastel shades against rampant wisteria.

Although this one’s best stumbled upon, it’ll impress anyone looking for some respite from the fast pace of the city.

What's a wonderful place!! A little gem hide behind the walls. We had a very great time driving our legs through the gorgeous Inner Temple Gardens. Gorgeous and amazing trees swing from side to side with the touch of the wind. It was almost like they were talking to each other and welcoming the visitors! It is quite magical. I loved. The green big sphere is beautiful. I must say that the whole place is impeccable clean and there is a public toilet service!!

This is a lovely place, so quiet, well looked after and beautiful surronded by trees, plant and flowers. There's plenty of benches and some individuals seats. There are some meditation and mindfulness activities, going at specific times, check the picture. The garden is only open from 12.30 to 3pm. And the activities have other specific times. Enjoy a bit of inner peace in this amazing place.

This is a hidden gem tucked away behind alley ways and through gates. Accross from the Royal Courts of Justice there are alleys with paths leading to the outer, inner temple and temple church. A place of judges Chambers and legal work goes on behind shiney glass and very well tended gardens with a fountain and church at its heart. While there notice the stain glass on the church windows, all family crests rather than religious scenes. I imagine these temples are of the very well connected type.

A wonderful place and worth a visit. Only very short opening times for the public (weekday 12:30 PM till 3 PM) but inviting to enjoy the silence and the green hidden just beneath the streets.

Amazing outdoor space in the heart of London. Open over lunchtime only, but great to enjoy some fresh air and get away from the computer!
