About the garden

Nestled between a golf course and multimillion pound houses, a visit to the beautiful gardens at Compton Acres is an opportunity to glimpse behind the hedges of Canford Cliffs - one of the UK’s most exclusive neighbourhoods. There are five gardens here, laid out over 10 acres of grounds, originally created for a lavish private residence and now open to the public year-round.

With a wide variety of garden styles and over 3000 species of herbaceous plants, bulbs, shrubs and trees on display, alongside a small garden centre, this is the perfect destination for a plant enthusiast. Each zone offers something unique, with an Italian Garden, Heather Garden, Rock and Water Garden and a Japanese Garden which was devised and constructed by a Japanese garden designer using authentic Far Eastern decorations.

Due to COVID restrictions, as of June 2021, the cafe is open for takeaways only, but should soon be fully open.

Went to the cafe for breakfast. We all had Full English, with our own choice of eggs and toast. Meal was lovely, especially the mushrooms. The staff friendly and welcoming, coffee delicious. We will be returning probably to try the all day lunch menu.

Got our Christmas Tree from Compton Acres, much beautiful, so fresh. Welcoming staff, beautiful market around. They do deliver the tree to you (3m radius). Absolutely, the best Christmas Trees in BCP area! There is no parking, but you can find a street nearby (few minutes walk).

What a fantastic little gem. This is such a worthwhile place to visit. The Italian Garden at the start and the Japanese garden at the end are spectacular and worth a visit alone...then the little paths in between have some wonderful features and plants. Once you have finished in the garden the cafe at the end is lovely. With coffee and cake full if flavour.

Very tasty lunch at Compton Acres. Generous portions and very reasonably priced. Pleasant service and lovely surroundings onside and out. The gardens are beautiful and well worth a visit, particularly the Japanese garden. Tucked away on the edge of Bournemouth, I definitely recommend!

I absolutely love this place. I will definitely recommend this place to buy a real Christmas tree. Also, they can drop your Christmas tree off at your home, and it's free!
