Belsay hall is currently undergoing a roof renovation but can visit and look inside of this massive hall. There is no furniture inside. Scaffolding tours and full site tours are available. It was fun to try out the tall slide next to the hall and even an adult could easily fit and move in it. The castle is well preserved and could easily see almost all the ancient rooms, spaces, design and architecture very clearly. Can climb to the top of the castle to get a panoramic view. The garden is impressively large in extent and it gives a feeling of a tropical rainforest. This garden extends across a quarry, which creates some magnificent walkways and nature's wonders. Parking is free for English heritage members. Can easily drive close to the site. Washroom facilities are really good. There is a tea room, a souvenir shop and a second hand book store at the site.

A very nice attraction to visit, the house is currently undergoing a roof renovation, the outside of the house is covered in scaffolding. You can still explore the house inside. The house is big with plenty of spacious room although passes of the entrance and hallway have been boarded up for protection. The garden is spectacular and very different to what you would see in a normal house/castle garden, it’s definitely worth the visit. It’s a long walk through the garden to the castle. You will get grants views of the area from the top of the castle. Will visit again one day when all the renovation has completed but it was still a good day.

Great day out for the family. Events for children and big kids alike. Hall of residence, rock gardens and castle all well kept. Held back one star as the floral displays could have been better especially for the time of year. Hopefully the new awakening project will see a change and more staffing.

Lovely gardens and quarry walk. Lots of work going on at the moment all over but you are made fully aware of this. Really poor toilet facilities - if you don't 'go' before you start the walk it's a very long walk back.

My first visit here…. crazy when it is just on my doorstep There was a nice Christmas fayre being hosted in the main hall with some great items from local creators. The castle and quarry walk are amazing, some spectacular view… can’t wait to return in Winter, Spring and Summer to feel and see the differences
