About the garden

What was once a Georgian kitchen garden with the sole purpose of serving Archerfield House has been completely transformed. Today, it is a Walled Garden and a haven for wildlife featuring fragrant florals, fresh produce and unique nature trails.

Owned by the Douglas-Hamilton family since the late ‘60s, the one-acre site, in East Lothian, is split into several areas. Enjoy an eye-catching display of flowers in the perennial meadow, take in the delightful aroma from the Rose Garden and listen out for different creatures in the wildlife area. You can also feast your eyes on colourful fruit and vegetables in the potager and tunnel beds which you can then enjoy in the form of a tasty lunch in the Garden Cafe.

The inviting grassy area by the pond offers the chance to relax while the play area keeps the kids entertained. Following the magical Fairy Trail with the family, through Archerfield Wood, as you look for sculptures and willow structures is a must.

Opening times

Summer 1st March to 31st October 10am to 4.30pm Open every day Winter 1st November to 28th February 10am to 4pm Closed on Tuesdays NOTE: The Garden is free to visit over the Winter, from 1st November to 28th February.

Great space to stop for some food and to warm up after a soggy morning walk. The food was really good, it's dog friendly so we were able to bring our pup in. There is also a great little shop if you need to grab a gift or two

Spacious cafe with a good menu. Very child friendly. Gardens are beautiful and the fairy walk is great fun. It's lovely to see deer roaming freely.

Lovely place - beautiful garden, shop with a variety of products (food, garden tools and not only), cafe, outdoor sitting area, playground for kids and some walking paths. Nice place for an afternoon trip with lunch and out on fresh air.

Superb cafe and restaurant! Not cheap but the food and service are fantastic, great for kids with a wonderful play area and the fairy walk through the woodlands out behind the place is utterly incredible.
