The veg garden is full of stuff. The walled garden is a picture.

Truly seasonal menus means there's always something new to try. One small annoyance, unlike other cafes with a similar ordering system (you order at the counter, get a number and your food is brought to you) your hot drinks are made then and there when you place your ordee, so you can't order a tea and have it made at the end of your meal or when your meal arrives. If you want it later, you need to go place a new order, which means you have to stand in line behind everyone also ordering food just to get that cup of coffee or tea. Slightly off-putting considering other cafes do this in a better way (either producing a separate slip or a token). Their main meals are where they shine and the cafe is in a beautiful setting. If you go on a Friday before 2pm, there's a small market (5 or 6 stalls) with fresh organic fruit & veg, local meat, olives, oils, bread etc.

Well worth a visit. Good education about where our food comes from. Fun play areas. The cafe is painfully slow, bring your own food!

Beautiful grounds. Very pleasant to walk around The real lure though are the animals, and there were precious few on the day we arrived. Most out at the front entrance before you even pay. A shame because it was a beautiful day, so not quite sure why they were hidden away. I'd note the animals (that we did see), looked very well cared for. Definitely more needs to be done about the visibility of the animals if you wish to charge €24 for two adults and a toddler. You'd get 90% of the experience from nearby Marley park for free, or there's a lovely petting zoo up at the Hazel House cafe in Tibradden. All the Hazel House wants is for you to buy a cup of coffee to see the animals. I'd be prepared to give it another try, to support care for the animals. If it's better the next time I'd give an improved review.

As always, we had an extremely pleasant and enjoyable time at Airfield. This is a place where you can unwind, take in the country-side, yet still be quite close to the city. Annual membership is a must for locals to the area.
