Ready to be whisked away on a luxurious countryside experience this summer? Board a train from London Paddington to The Newt in Somerset and embark on the Great Garden Escape.
On this First Class all-inclusive adventure, you'll stroll around the gardens at The Newt and explore the ancient woodlands. Visit The Story of Gardening museum and soak up over two thousand years of horticultural history with the estate's garden experts. Get a taste of the estate's produce and learn all about the art of cyder making.

Visiting The Newt in Somerset

The Newt in Somerset is a working estate with stunning gardens, attractions, restaurants and accommodation. Visitors can spend their days exploring these unique spaces and soak up everything Somerset has to offer.
Shaped and sculpted over the last 200 years, the gardens at The Newt offer visitors an immersive experience like no other. Visit the Parabola, where you'll find beautifully trained apple trees and twist and twirl into marvellous arches. Explore the Woodlands and enjoy the peace and quiet nature brings. Head over to the Winter Garden to learn all about the exotic plants and wander around the Produce Garden to find out more about the food grown and harvested on the estate.

Embark on a Luxurious Countryside Experience

The experience begins when you're greeted at London Paddington at 8.30am. You'll be served breakfast on board - a special selection of picnic goodies from The Newt. Upon arrival, a round of refreshments will be served before you're led on a garden tour with one of the estate's dedicated gardeners.
At lunch, feast on harvests from the estate with a selection of vegetables, meat and fruits, accompanied by drinks from The Newt and their sister garden, Babylonstoren in South Africa.
After lunch, you'll have time to explore the different attractions at The Newt before heading over to the cellar for a one-of-a-kind cyder tour and tasting session.

Seasonal events this summer

This year, The Newt is introducing Seasonal Specials on the Great Garden Escape.
One weekend a month, from July to September, visitors can opt for bespoke itineraries curated by experts on the estate.
Bees and Honey, 29 & 30 July
On this special weekend in July, guests can spend a day with Head Beekeeper, Paula Carnell. Discover the fascinating life of bees, explore the hives and colonies on the estate, and learn all about the secret benefits and magical properties of nature's liquid gold.
History and Heritage, 19 & 20 August
The team at The Newt are inspired by the history and traditions of Somerset. Join this weekend to learn about thousands of years of horticultural history, the stories of Arthurian legend, and step back in time and enjoy a day discovering the tales, tastes and traditions that continue to influence the estate.
Harvest, 23 & 24 September
Harvest on the estate is an exciting time and on the final Great Garden Escape weekend, guests are welcome to join in on the celebrations. The team will take you on a guided tour of the overflowing orchards and ornamental gardens, before feasting on the fruits of their labour.

Booking information

The Great Garden Escape runs from 6 May to 24 September 2022, and ticket prices are £335 per adult and £260 per child (ages 5-15).
Each ticket includes First Class return travel from London Paddington to The Newt in Somerset; guided tours, talks and tastings; meals from breakfast through to afternoon tea; plus a 12-month Garden Membership.
